Books: My most anticipated film adaptations for this year!

So we’re in September and 2014 is nearly over, but I realised that there were quite a few book-film adaptations coming out in the next few months and I’m looking forward to them!

Gone Girl – 2nd October 2014
With his wife’s disappearance having become the focus of an intense media circus, a man sees the spotlight turned on him when it’s suspected that he may not be innocent.

Mockingjay: Part 1 – 21st November 2014
Katniss Everdeen is in District 13 after she shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage.

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies – 12th December 2014
The Company of Thorin has reached Smaug’s lair; but can Bilbo and the Dwarves reclaim Erebor and the treasure? And, if so, can they hold on to it?

I think I’m most excited for Gone Girl, as I really loved that book. It really hooked me in, and I thought the huge twist was brilliant. The trailer for this is looking good too!

Mockingjay is one that I’m actually not too excited for yet – I loved the books and I’ve enjoyed each film so far but this one isn’t getting me to that level of excitement yet. The teaser trailers in which we saw President Snow and Peeta were great, but for me the official trailer that has just been released hasn’t really impressed me.

It may surprise people to know that I didn’t actually enjoy reading The Lord of the Rings that much. I thought the books were a little boring and skipped all the singing as that annoyed me. However, I adored The Hobbit. In my opinion, it is easily the best book out of that ‘series’ as a whole. I think the films have been okay so far, and more enjoyable than LotR, but they’re not ones that I would watch over and over again. Will still be watching it at some point, whether that be in cinema or on dvd!

Now, for these last two, it may seem a little odd that I’m so excited for the films as I haven’t actually read the books (yet!) but they are on my list!

The Giver – 19th September 2014
In a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the “real” world.

The Maze Runner – 10th October 2014
Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they’re all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow “runners” for a shot at escape.

I understand that The Giver is a book that a lot of American schools study (forgive me if that’s wrong!) and well I’ve just heard good things! I saw the trailer for the film when I last went to the cinema and it looked awesome. That’s out in two days though so I’ll probably read and watch when the DVD is out…

I’ve also heard so much about The Maze Runner, good things and bad, so I’m looking forward to reading this book and then watching the film! This seems to be a book that people either love or hate, so I’m curious to see how I take it!

How about you guys? Looking forward to any of these films? Or have I missed one?
