Today I managed to tick something off my 101 in 1001 list – and something I’ve been wanting to do forever – fruit picking! September is the perfect time for picking blackberries, and there were also a good amount of raspberries out there too! I’m sad we missed the strawberries earlier in the summer, but next year we’ll get them!
We went to Kenyon Hall Farm, a working family farm that has a shop, cafe and pick your own fruit fields. I’ve only been a couple of times, but it’s always busy and full of families! I think they also do a lot of kid related activities throughout the year so if you’re close . Open everyday, it’s ideal for a sunny Sunday day out!
We had a look online to see what was available there, and they have this page which basically tells you which fruit/veg is in season and what’s coming. Picking wise, they only had blackberries and raspberries available, but we saw pumpkin and other squashes growing in the fields!
Blackberries are such a pretty colour when they’re growing! There were tons of blackberries in all stages of ripening, and it was difficult to keep them in the punnet and away from our mouths! Fruit just tastes so much better when you know it’s fresh!
It was great to get out and have a little walk, picking out fresh berries and enjoying the sunshine. The best part is that these two punnets cost us £4.86 altogether. I’m not sure how much they weighed, but that’s definitely cheaper than buying them from a shop! If you’re in the North West, I’d definitely recommend visiting this place! If you’re not, find your nearest farm and fruit picking site and get out there!
