Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote

It has been a week since I got back from Lanzarote, and I’m still sad about it. We had a lovely week there in the sunshine; eating good food, swimming and sunbathing all day long. It’s really hard to come back into the cold weather and straight back into work!

Puerto Del Carmen is a pretty popular place to visit in Lanzarote, though I didn’t really see many hotels. Not like when I’ve been to mainland Spain. It seemed to be mostly apartment style ‘hotels’ and lots of villas. We had a villa and oh, it was brilliant. We had our own pool, a table tennis table and a pool table! Town and the main strip were both a 10/15 minute walk away from our villa, and we went down there most nights. Puerto Del Carmen is such a beautiful place, and I’d definitely love to go back. I’m going to let the photos do the speaking for the most part for this post – there’s a mixture of both phone and camera photos.

This is the area where we did the diving; the water was so clear and blue, and there were hundreds of fish. I’ll post more about that next week, when I’ve edited all our diving clips! Diving was an incredible experience. (The first photo is the actual bay that we started our diving sessions from!)

This is near the harbour at night, and I’m not sure how well you’ll be able to spot them without knowing exactly where they are, but we were so excited to see two rays in the shallows! Obviously a safe place to sleep at night! There’s one on the left side, just above the black motor on the boat, and one closer to the top right, in the more bluer water. There’s also a few fish dotted about!

So many cats! At one point during the day, my dad and I spotted 11 in one place. There’s plenty of food/water bowls dotted about and these cats are clearly living the life of luxury here…

And this is walking down to the strip in the evening, and a bit of the area. I didn’t take many photos of the strip at all, or of the beach that ran alongside it unfortunately! I didn’t want to carry my camera around with me because it was just so hot and I didn’t take a large bag out most days/nights.

All of the ice cubes were huge, but rightly so. All week we were having an average of 28 degrees and it just felt so hot in the sun. It was pretty windy though at times and, as usual, I was the one complaining that I was cold. Any little breeze just gets to me. Sure it was refreshing most of the time, but not when getting out of the pool! First world problems eh? On our last night/day it actually rained. Heavy at times, but never horrible or cold like it is in England. As we were packing the bus to go to the airport a rainbow appeared on our street! I have to say, I felt a little better about leaving Lanzarote in the rain – and surprisingly, when we touched down at Manchester it was dry and not too cold!

It was a great week, and I’ve got a little to post about for the food that we tried and of course our diving sessions! It was my first time on the Canary Islands, and I’d definitely go back. Maybe Tenerife next time eh?
