A few weeks ago I spotted a tweet on the Co-Op twitter. They were asking for members of public to get involved with their #ReverseAdvent in December, and would send out boxes and information to help with it. I of course signed myself up, because I’ve never done this before, had never heard of it before and wanted to give back.
The premise of #ReverseAdvent (something I’ve now seen advertised in other places) is to fill up a box with an item each day of the December advent. You include foods, treats, toiletries, toys, clothes etc and basically the box will be taken to someone in need this Christmas.
So far I’ve mostly included dried/tinned foods and a couple of Christmas/chocolate treats. I’ve added toothpaste and face wipes, and my plan is to put a few more toiletries in there and some socks, underwear, hats, gloves etc too. For some people, just getting warm clothes and food is enough to make their Christmas better. I’ve found a local homeless shelter that is doing their own #ReverseAdvent so I’m going to send mine off there some time next week. Ideally I want it to be gone before Christmas!
I know there’s only a week and a bit to go now, but honestly it’s never too late to do this. It doesn’t have to be a full box, it doesn’t have to cost the Earth. Anything you can donate will be surely appreciated! Making this box up, I’ve realised just how little it can cost to someone like me to gather up a few useful items. I know they’ll go to good use.
